Apple Blackberry Crumble

This crumble combines the tartness of apples with the sweetness of blackberries topped with a brown sugar and oat crumble.

Ingredients

For the filling

  • 3 cups apples, chopped (leave skins on)
  • 1 cup blackberries
  • 3/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp tapioca

For the Topping

  • 1 cup oats
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, diced
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

Instructions 

For the filling

  • Chop the apples in to 1 in pieces (keep the skins on) and place into a baking dish. Add the blackberries. Toss with lemon juice, cinnamon, and vanilla.
  • Pour sugar and tapioca over the apple blackberry mixture. Mix until combined. Set aside.

For the topping

  • In a medium bowl, combine butter, flour, oats, and cinnamon.
  • Cut the butter into the mixture until it resembles breadcrumbs. You can use a dough cutter, a fork, or your hands.

Assembly

  • Pour the topping over the fruit. Bake at 350 °F for 45-50 minutes until the top is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling. Let sit for 10 minutes before serving. Top with homemade whipped cream or ice cream and enjoy!
